With the Chicago Blackhawks on the road to play the Detroit Red Wings, there is always going to be some talk about the rivalry and how long these two have been competing against each other.
However, since November 2023, the conversation surrounding this match has revolved around Patrick Kane, who now plays for the Wings after his legendary tenure with the Hawks.
He will always get attention before and after these games, which is warranted considering he is one of the best to ever put on a Chicago jersey in any sport.
Kane answered a question that piqued the interest of many people before the game at Little Caeser’s Arena on Friday.
The rumors that Jonathan Toews is trying to return to the NHL are loud and everyone is wondering if he will come back.
Unsurprisingly, Kane was asked about this ahead of this match, which is the perfect time to bring it up to him. His answer was slightly different:
“I would love to see him come back and play for the Blackhawks. That would be great. When you look at his career, how legendary it is and how much success he had as a Blackhawk, you don’t want to see him wear another jersey. I don’t know if that’s really in the cards. That’s just my thought.”
That would be entertaining for Blackhawks fans if they had Toews back, but that’s just not going to happen. They have already replaced him as captain and the ship for his return has sailed.
Other leaders wouldn’t be able to lead the same right now with Toews in the room. It’s a shame the organization let Toews walk like this, but it is what it is now.
If Toews returned with another team, it would likely be a playoff team anyway, which would be more fun for him than the Blackhawks coming into Friday with the worst record in the NHL.
When asked about the Chicago Blackhawks organization, Kane also gave a nice answer that fans will appreciate:
“I always watch, I always see what’s happening there. I probably don’t pay as much attention as I did last year, but I always hope for the best for the team and the organization. I want to see them win and do well for the city. “
One day, even if not as a player, Kane will be back at the United Center to be celebrated. Despite brief stints with other teams, nothing will ever change his legendary status within the Chicago organization.
