The weather story on Friday will consist of continued dry weather and rising temperatures! It’ll start out chilly again, but we’ll get back to seasonal temperatures on Friday and then another nice warm-up for the weekend with highs climbing back into the mid to upper 70s.
This will also be a very dry and sunny week with dry conditions throughout the weekend – this will not help with the rapidly developing into a moderate and even severe drought for parts of the area, especially parts of Burlington and the Atlantic provinces. The new Drought Monitor Index was released on Thursday, and much of our area is experiencing moderate drought, with many places now experiencing severe drought.
We haven’t had any rain since September 29th, and even then it was only a trace.
If the current forecast holds, this will likely be a dry spell in the top 10. The longest we’ve gone without rain in Philadelphia since records began was 29 days, way back in 1874. We’re now at 18 days, and with no rain expected for most of next week, the chance we can get close. If we made it to October 28 without any rain, that would be a new record for the area. As of now, it looks like this time frame could be our next chance for some rainfall, so it could be close! We will keep you informed.
