Police ID man killed after being hit near New Castle on Saturday evening

Delaware State Police have identified the 44-year-old man who died after being struck by a car near New Castle on Saturday evening.

Police say Edward Gallagher was walking on Route 13, north of Route 273, when he entered the southbound lane of Route 13. There, a 38-year-old man from Smyrna was driving his Toyota Tacoma.

The driver was unable to avoid hitting Gallagher, police said. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
