HIGHLAND PARK, Illinois (CBS) – Highland Park police are looking for the person who shot a 16-year-old boy from Highwood during a dispute on Sunday morning.
Police said officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 2300 block of Green Bay Road at around 11:30 a.m.
A 16-year-old victim was found and transported to Highland Park Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to police, the victim was walking on the sidewalk and was approached by the gunman. Before the shooting, the two had a brief conversation.
Witnesses said the male suspect, dressed all in black, fled on a bicycle. However, further investigation revealed that the suspect probably fled the area on food after the shooting.
A police K-9 tracked the perpetrator’s scent, but the scent was lost on a nearby road, police said.
Highland Park Police asked the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force for assistance with the investigation.
Police say the shooting was targeted and not random. There is no known threat to the community.
Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
