CHICAGO (CBS) A suspect was shot Friday during a fight with officers in the Morgan Park neighborhood over what police said was a gun the person was carrying.
Officers attempted to stop the suspect, whom they observed holding a gun, on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of West 111th Street around 5:30 p.m.
The person fled into a home and officers gave chase on foot. Chicago police supt. Fred Waller said there was a battle over the person’s gun between them and the officers.
Two shots were fired and the suspect suffered a gunshot wound. They were taken to Christian Hospital in critical condition.
Two officers were also taken to hospital for observation, but were doing well.
Police recovered the suspect’s weapon. They are still investigating whether they fired the weapon.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said it is investigating the shooting.
