BEACON, NY – About a dozen protesters stopped westbound traffic on the Hamilton Fish Newburgh-Beacon Bridge over the Hudson River Monday morning.

The protesters say the civil disobedience was intended to call for a free Palestine and to draw attention to what they say is “the ongoing genocide committed by Israel against the people of Gaza.”

New York State Police said the protesters had been taken into custody.

Similar protests took place across the country.

In Chicago, protesters blocked the entrance to O’Hare International Airport. Traffic up The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco was also closed due to a blockade of demonstrators. The interstate in Oakland, I-280, was also closed due to protest activities.
