Residents of New York and New Jersey woke up to rainy weather Friday morning, like many on their way to their Labor Day weekend destinations.
CBS New York’s First Alert Weather team is keeping an eye on things ahead of the upcoming rush hour and the coming weekend.
Back in NYC for busy holiday travel
It was a bumpy ride for commuters Friday morning, but there is good news to report.
The windshield wipers got a workout earlier as showers and even downpours moved through the area. Thankfully, these were more morning showers, as we’re only expecting afternoon showers. But like yesterday, people will be buzzing about the temperatures, as we struggle to reach the low 70s – which is normal for late September.
Evening plans should go smoothly as we expect only the occasional shower. The same can be said tonight but we will also see humidity increase until dawn.
Labor Day Weekend Weather Forecast
We are a little more optimistic about Saturday, as the threat of showers and thunderstorms remains with us until late in the day, especially in the north and west. That said, it is likely to remain fairly dry during the day, with just a few clouds in the mix. It will also be warmer and more humid, with highs closer to 80.
Sunday unfortunately starts with thunderstorms in the area, but mainly around the city and the south and east. The biggest threats are downpours that can lead to local flooding, as well as locally damaging winds. There is even a small chance of thunderstorm development in the afternoon, but that threat seems rather isolated, and again, mainly south and of the city.
The good news is that Labor Day looks to be the best of all, with beautiful skies, low humidity, and temperatures around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
