Report: Aiyuk, 49ers resume contract talks after ‘candid’ meeting originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
A new development surrounding Brandon Aiyuk could give the 49ers Faithful some hope.
The star receiver recently met with coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers’ top brass, and the two sides have since re-entered negotiations over a long-term contract extension, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Friday, citing sources.
“Open and honest thoughts were expressed” at the meeting, Schultz added, and after months of negotiations and trade rumors, there is optimism that Aiyuk can remain in the Bay.
However, the situation remains “very unstable,” Schultz said.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero confirmed Schultz’s view, citing sources, reporting that San Francisco has made a “renewed effort” in recent days to reach a long-term deal with Aiyuk.
Pelissero also noted that the situation remains uncertain and that other teams linked to the receiver through trade rumors, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, are still in the running. But Aiyuk staying with the 49ers “seems increasingly likely.”
The #49ers have made another attempt to reach a long-term deal with WR Brandon Aiyuk in recent days, sources tell me and @MikeGarafolo.
The situation is fluid, with other teams, including Pittsburgh, still in the mix, but a return to SF is looking increasingly likely.

Earlier this week, sources told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco that the 49ers had a framework for trades with the Browns and New England Patriots. New England has since backed out of the Aiyuk trade talks, and Pittsburgh has re-entered discussions with San Francisco.
Aiyuk is under contract with the 49ers through the 2024 NFL season for $14.1 million. This is the first time there have been reports that the two sides have reopened negotiations after they stalled in recent weeks.
But with the 2024 NFL season just around the corner, it appears that some movement is coming.
