Monday was the last day for players selected in the 2021 NBA Draft to sign multi-year extensions before becoming restricted free agents next season.
Slater also reported that representatives for Kuminga and the Warriors were not close to negotiations before Monday’s deadline after Yahoo! Jake Fischer of Sports previously reported in early August that the 22-year-old was seeking a five-year contract worth up to $224 million.
However, Golden State did agree to terms on a three-year, $39 million deal with former No. 14 pick Moses Moody on Sunday, signing one of their young pieces long-term.
Kuminga had a breakout season with the Warriors last year, averaging 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game on 52.9 percent shooting from the field in 74 games (46 starts).
Now entering a crucial 2024-25 NBA season, he is looking to prove himself again before potentially signing a lucrative extension next summer.
