The Buffalo Sabers and Detroit Red Wings have been linked in trade talks lately. The player the Red Wings are most connected to is forward Dylan Cozens, and NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has provided more information on the matter.

During the most recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Friedman reported that a few sources advised that the Sabers and Red Wings were close to making a trade for Cozens.
“There’s definitely not a lot coming out of Detroit, and there’s not a lot coming out of Buffalo, but at the end of the day it coughed up to me that they believed the Red Wings were looking at Cozens. And it’s true, I think a lot of people were looking at Cozens. And I will say this: there was a time when a few people told me they thought it was close.

Friedman also clarified that he is unsure where trade talks between the Sabers and Red Wings currently stand.
“Now I don’t know where it’s going. I don’t know where it’s going. One thing I do believe is that Cozens is a man, like everyone is looking for right-wing centers. So at the very last moment. At least, I I’m sure there are other people in Buffalo who have called them and said, ‘What exactly are you thinking here, and what are we looking at?'”

This is undoubtedly a big update from Friedman, and it will be fascinating to see if the Red Wings continue to push for Cozens. It’s no secret they need help in the middle, and Cozens would give it to them. However, the Sabers would have to make sure they get enough for the young center in a potential move, especially since Detroit is a division rival.
Cozens, 23, played in 42 games for the Sabers this season, recording nine goals, 21 points, 86 hits and a minus-13 rating.
