Republicans run for New Jersey Governor Swing to each other in the first debate

Lawrenceville, NJ (AP) – Four candidates who compete in the Republican Gubernatorial Primary of New Jersey did not bump on Tuesday when they were dealing with their first debate prior to the vote of 10 June.

Senator Jon Bramnick, former state assembly Jack Ciattarelli, one -off is Senator Ed Durr and radio presenter Bill Spadea Sparren for almost two hours at Rider University in Lawrenceville.

They all often talked about each other and were confronted with interruption of the moderators while constantly launching attacks, some of them sometimes compete for the cloak of whom the greatest proponent of President Donald Trump is. Bramnick was the only Trump -Skepticus on stage.

In one attack, Ciattarelli started on Spadea and said that Republicans who know Spadea are the best to endors him instead of the former radio presenter.

Spadea responded by offering sarcastic congratulations: “Jack talks about dual losers,” said Bramnick, referring to the two earlier failed runs of Ciattarelli for Governor.

The race comes during the first year of Trump’s second administration and because De Gop is hitting to recover the governorship in a state that is switched between the parties in gubernatorial elections, but democratically leans in presidential and interim votes.

Spadea, Durr and Ciattarelli each embraced the president, while Bramnick has kept his distance and claims to win New Jersey, a candidate should not only appeal against Republican primary voters, but also for democrats and independent.

Spadea said he has been to Trump since “he arrived in 2015”, a reference to the launch of his presidential campaign that year.

Durr walked to the Senate of the State as a pro-Trump candidate in 2021 and beat the powerful president of the Democratic Senate. He lost re -election to a democrat in 2023.

Every candidate said they oppose whether the executive orders under the current Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy would undo, so that the local police are held to work with immigration officials.

Asked if they would support an amendment that would strengthen abortion rights in the state group – New Jersey’s law currently notes that it is legal – Bramnick said yes while Durr and Spadea said no. Ciattarelli said he supports abortion rights, but has specified his position on an amendment.

Murphy is excluded from searching for a third term. Gubernatorial hopeful of his party held their first debate on Sunday.

New Jersey and Virginia are the only two states with regularly planned gubernatorial races this year.
