Result Thursday night football: Cowboys hold on against Giants in game full of injuries

The Dallas Cowboys are back in the win column, courtesy of the New York Giants.

In an ugly, injury-filled “Thursday Night Football” game, the Cowboys held on for a 20-15 victory against their NFC East rivals. It is the start of quarterback Dak Prescott’s thirteenth consecutive victory over New York.

Dallas’ defense was the difference maker. After consecutive rough performances against the New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens, the unit shut down the Giants run game, allowing 26 yards on the ground on 24 attempts, and forcing quarterback Daniel Jones to air it if he wanted to win. .

Giants rookie Malik Nabers was up to the task, with 12 receptions for 115 yards, but few others were. Prescott, meanwhile, went 22-for-27 for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while CeeDee Lamb had 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Unfortunately, both teams were bitten by the injury bug. Cowboys defensive standouts Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs and DeMarcus Lawrence all left the game at various points with injuries, while Nabers was ruled out in the fourth quarter with a concussion.

Here’s how it all went down on Yahoo Sports:

LIVE DECLARATION IS OVER47 updates

  • Daniel Jones intercepted just before the end zone

  • Malik Nabers dropped out with a concussion

  • Brandon Aubrey misses a kick!

The Cowboys kicker is the best in the NFL and he just missed the first field goal attempt of more than 50 yards of his career. The Giants get the ball back on their own with 28 seconds left.

  • Things look bleak for the Giants

The Giants ran out of timeouts, the Cowboys got another set of downs with less than three minutes to play and Nabers simply went to the locker room.

  • It was a match full of injuries

Micah Parsons, Malik Nabers, Trevon Diggs, DeMarcus Lawrence. Parsons is now taken to the locker room, while Nabers is in the blue tent.

  • Giants retired on fourth down and Malik Nabers appears injured

After three straight conversions on fourth down, the Giants go for it again on 4th and 6th. Daniel Jones scrambles up and finds Malik Nabers on the sideline, but Nabers cannot hold the ball. And now Nabers looks hurt. Not the best few seconds for New York.

  • Micah Parsons appears to be injured

  • Cowboys 20, Giants 15

Kayvon Thibodeaux hits Dak Prescott on third down to help force an incompletion, then Brandon Aubrey makes a 40-yard field goal. The Giants need another field goal in a game where they only make field goals.

  • Good company for Nabers

  • Looks like Trevon Diggs was having cramps

  • Malik Nabers: 11 receptions on 13 targets for 113 yards

The rookie is once again the clear top option of the Giants offense. But that lack of a touchdown threatens to become serious

  • Cowboys 17, Giants 15

The Giants make another field goal, this time a 42-yarder by Greg Joseph, who went 5-for-5 in the game. New York is doing well on offense, but they just can’t break through for a TD. Anyway, another stop and a field goal gives them the lead.

  • Trevon Diggs is out with an injury

It’s unclear what happened during a tackle, but Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs leaves the field with trainers after attending to his ankle. It looks like he’s going to the locker room immediately. That could be big with the way the Giants are looking for Nabers, who primarily covered Diggs.

  • Giants convert a 4th and 3

Giants go for it on 4th and 3 and Jones hits Nabers on a short route for Trevon Diggs. He has kept his passing conservative most of the time, but this was Jones’ best game of the season.

  • DeMarcus Lawrence is still on the sidelines

According to Kaylee Hartung, DeMarcus Lawrence had his right foot re-taped for more arch support. He is still on the sideline with his helmet in hand and has not returned to the game.

  • 3-and-out for the Giants

On their next possession, Daniel Jones is tackled for a loss of five yards on a 2nd and 5 zone. He hits Wan’Dale Robinson for a six-yard pass on the next play, but before the first down.

  • Brandon Aubrey hits a 60-yard field goal

Cowboys’ first drive of the second half sputters after a holding penalty on Tyler Guyton, pushing them back to the Giants’ 42.

But Brandon Aubrey’s boomstick leg still gets them points. He easily hits a 60-yard field goal for a 17–12 Dallas lead.

Probably would have been fine from 65 onwards.

  • Cowboys 14, Giants 12

Greg Joseph makes his fourth field goal of the game for the Giants.

New York’s drive stalls at the Dallas 3-yard line, when Daniel Jones’ five-yard pass falls short of a first down.

Giants got a little conservative when they reached 10. Jones moved the ball through the air and completed five passes for 70 yards before completing the final five yards.

  • DeMarcus Lawrence injured

DeMarcus Lawrence has apparently suffered an ankle injury. After being checked on the sideline, he goes to the locker room.
