Road reopens after train derailment in Springfield

A major road in Springfield was reopened a day after a train derailed.

N. Bechtle Avenue near Perry Street reopened to traffic Saturday, Springfield police confirmed to News Center 7. Work continues on the track where the train derailed.

As News Center 7 reported Friday, an Indiana & Ohio Railway (IORY) train carrying hazardous materials derailed around 1:24 a.m. Friday.

Ten of the train’s 45 cars derailed. Two of the derailed cars were carrying hazardous materials, but were not leaking.

No one was injured in the derailment.

N. Bechtle Avenue was initially expected to remain closed until Monday, but the street reopened today.

The derailment is being investigated.
