Rochester man arrested on child abuse warrants

33-year-old Rochester resident Zachariah D. Cook was arrested Tuesday by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. He had several outstanding warrants, including Level 1 and Level 4 child abuse charges, as well as several felonies.

According to court documents, two girls accused Cook of inappropriately touching them. The documents show that at least one of the victims was under the age of 14.

According to a Sheriff’s Office news release, Cook attempted to elude officers when they arrived at the 300 block of North Monroe Street to serve a warrant. He was found in a shed.

When he refused the officers’ orders to leave the barn, K-9 Deputy James Dulin sent his K-9 partner, a Belgian Malinois named Agi, to help apprehend Cook.

After being apprehended, Cook was transported to Woodlawn Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, then booked into the Fulton County Jail for his active arrest warrants. He was also preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement, battery on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement animal and possession of marijuana.

A woman who lived at the residence, 30-year-old Nicole L. Boardman, was also taken to the Fulton County Jail and preliminarily charged with obstruction of justice and assisting a criminal, both Level 6 felonies.

“It is very encouraging to see our brave law enforcement agencies working together to bring Mr. Cook to justice,” said Sheriff Travis Heishman. “This is a great example of old-fashioned, proactive police work.”

Another representative from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said Agi is doing well.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rochester Police Department, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Parkview EMS.
