Rumor has it that Barrington Mews is hosting a meeting at the Camden County complex

BARRINGTON – Residents and their caregivers at a subsidized housing community in Camden County have been hit with rumors of a possible sale.

Colorado resident Amy Gahran said employees at Barrington Mews, a low-income complex with more than 300 apartments, told her the complex is being sold. Gahran’s brother, John, lives at the facility.

“I was just floored,” says Gahran, who regularly visits the property to help her brother, who has cognitive disabilities.

Attempts to confirm the sale failed Wednesday afternoon. The complex’s management would not discuss details at an upcoming community meeting about the possible changes, and Camden County’s property records website does not list any ownership transfer.

Gahran said she was informed of the possible sale by staff members who suggested she tell her brother personally to make it easier to process the news.

According to Gahran, employees said current leases would be honored until they expire. The rental costs can then rise to the market interest rate.

Senior Housing of Barrington is listed as the current owner of Barrington Mews. AAH Management is listed as the management company.

Gahran said she was told the new owner — not yet identified as of Wednesday afternoon — will take over in February.

Flyers have been placed around the apartments advertising a community meeting to discuss the “Sale of Barrington Mews”. The meeting is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. in the common room of the complex.

Amy Gahran said her brother and other Barrington Mews residents received this flyer about the transfer of ownership of the apartment complex.

The house is only accessible to residents aged 55 and older. Eligibility is limited by household size and maximum annual gross income, as set forth by AAH management.

Based on rate specifications as of December, the one- and two-bedroom apartments are open to residents with annual gross incomes between $16,000 and $55,080. Monthly rent ranges between $581 and $862 depending on the floor plan.

The chance of a rent increase causes Gahran to look for new housing options for her brother.

“I’m not sure how to solve this,” Gahran said, citing concerns about long waiting lists for subsidized housing in both New Jersey and Colorado, and her brother’s inability to pay market rates that could double. its monthly rent of $710.

She added that her brother lives on a fixed income, consisting of Social Security and disability benefits.

Calls to the Barrington Mews property manager and the Barrington town clerk Wednesday morning have not yet been returned.
