Russell Brand posted a video to social media on Friday addressing what he says are “criminal” allegations against him
Russell Brand denies what he says are “very serious criminal” allegations against him related to past “promiscuous” behavior.
In a new video shared to his social media on Friday, Brand, 48, said he “absolutely refutes” the claims, describing them as “extremely blatant and aggressive attacks.”
“I have received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email, one from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper, listing a litany of extremely blatant and aggressive attacks,” he began in the video. “But amid this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks, there are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute.”
Although Brand did not name the TV company or newspaper, his video precedes a new special investigative episode of the British current affairs show Shipments aired Saturday evening.
In the lead up to the show’s broadcast there were multiple UK outlets including The Evening Standard have reported that Channel 4 presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy had fueled speculation about the content of the Saturday show after writing a since-deleted post on including a screenshot from the show.
Channel 4 did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

As the video continued, Brand then addressed the time frame of the allegations and emphasized that any relationships he had during a period of self-proclaimed “promiscuity” were “consensual.”
“These allegations relate to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the cinema. And as I’ve described extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous. In those days of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolute, always consensual.”
“I have always been transparent about that, almost too transparent. And I am now also transparent about it. And to see that transparency develop into something criminal, I absolutely deny that,” Brand added.
The actor then discussed how he felt his ‘voice’ was not approved by the mainstream media and speculated that there was an agenda to control his voice.
“I don’t mind them using my books and my stand-up to talk about my promiscuous, consensual behavior in the past,” he continued with his response. “What I seriously refute are these very, very serious criminal allegations.”
“It is also worth noting that there are witnesses whose evidence directly contradicts the narratives that these two mainstream media outlets are trying to construct, apparently, in what appears to me to be a coordinated attack,” Brand added.
“I don’t want to comment further on this because of the serious nature of the allegations, but I feel like I’m being attacked and it’s clear they’re working very closely together,” he said.
