Nov. 28 – During the county’s financial update, Cumberland County Chief Financial Officer Jennifer Turner reported that local tax collections for options in the county were $111,154 above budgeted projections for the 2024-’25 fiscal year.
Turner reported to Cumberland County commissioners that October sales tax collections for the year to date were $1,421,924, which is $99,729 above projections.
Local tax collections fund the county’s general school fund.
She said property tax collections were not available at this time.
She said tax collections for hotels and motels totaled $385,321, which is 30.79% of the $1,251,275 budgeted for the fiscal year.
Turner reported that state prisoner boarding collections totaled $87,494, out of the $386,952 budgeted. This represents two months of revenue collections, she said.
Turner reported that the EMS department raised $301,781 this month, which was slightly under budget. However, she said the year-to-date total is $1,541,247, which is $41,251 above projections. To meet the county’s $4.5 million budget for the fiscal year, monthly collections must average $375,000.
The provincial commission approved the following budget changes:
—$75,000 for the General Purpose School Fund to amend the school system’s Innovative Schools Model grant account.
—$1,027 to the county general fund to increase the liability insurance of the county medical director.
–$25,000 from the county drug fund to purchase new weapons for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, which will be more cost-efficient.
–$35,200 from the State of Tennessee for the Sheriff’s Office to provide one-time retention bonuses to police officers.
