January has started cold. Thanks to the Arctic air mass, the last seven days have been below average. For those who are tired of the cold, I bring good news: warm weather is coming.
Today we will finally break the streak of below average days as temperatures will climb into the upper 40s and lower 50s. Clouds build up during the day, with a good mix of sun and cloud, with even more cloud in the evening.
A cold front returns Saturday night, ushering in cooler temperatures for Sunday. I want to emphasize that temperatures will be cool, not cold. This won’t be another shot of Arctic air as high temperatures will manage to stay above freezing and climb into the 40s.
Old Man Winter is also away for a work week. Temperatures in the 50s are possible on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We are slowly moving out of the grip of winter into a warmer pattern. While outbreaks of Arctic cold will still be possible towards the end of the winter season, I don’t expect this to be the norm.
The chances of precipitation seem small this week. Our best chance will come into next weekend as a storm will bring wet weather for us but heavy snow for those up north.
