NEW YORK – A judge has granted a one-week extension trial of Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey Friday, but the senator was not physically in the courtroom. He joined the proceedings by telephone.

Defendants Fred Dabies and Wael Hana, two New Jersey businessmen, appeared in court. Their trial will take place at the same time as the senator’s, which will now take place on May 13.

Menendez’s wife Nadine was conspicuously absent. The judge granted a postponement of her trial after lawyers revealed this she is dealing with an unspecified medical condition. Her trial will now take place in July.

All four have pleaded not guilty.
