Snow and ice are lingering as extreme cold moves into Philadelphia. Here’s the prediction.

Snow and ice continue to linger in the Philadelphia region amid the extreme cold headed our way this week. This is the coldest air the area has seen since 2018.

Tuesday and Wednesday will only see highs in the mid-teens, with lows across the region between minus 2 and 9 degrees. On Wednesday morning, another strengthening boost of Arctic air means that even in the city of Philadelphia, temperatures could range between minus 5 and minus 10. Wind chills will drop below zero at night, while daytime wind chills will be between 0 and 10.

A Cold Weather Warning is in effect across the region until Wednesday afternoon and NEXT Weather Alerts are in effect until Thursday morning due to the extreme cold.

We will remain in the deep freeze on Thursday, but on Friday we will finally climb above freezing for the first time in almost five days.

This is a good time to remember the 3 ‘P’s: people, pets and blowjobs.

  • People: Check on the elderly, make sure they have warmth, and any children bundled up in front of the bus in the morning should be dressed in multiple layers, with hats, gloves, scarves and all limbs covered.
  • Pets: If we don’t like this weather, they don’t either. Be sure to limit bathroom breaks and walks.
  • Pipes: Especially for older homes, make sure you do this wrap older pipes in towels or rags and allow a light trickle to drip into rarely used sinks and faucets to prevent pipes from bursting.
