The unsettled pattern that has been forecast all week remains, but the chance of rain is significantly reduced.
As a coastal low winds its way east, its potential to produce significant rainfall is fairly weak. A few stray showers are possible early in Thursday’s morning rush, but it looks like as the day progresses that low will shift east and bring some drier air into the region, allowing the clouds to break and the sun to blend in during the afternoon.
Thursday morning the temperature will drop to around 17 degrees Celsius. That is a good starting point for the sun to start shining through the clouds. Thursday afternoon the temperature can then rise to around 27 degrees Celsius.
As a coastal low moves eastward during the day Thursday, there are indications that an appendage of the low could develop a little closer to the New Jersey coast Thursday night into Friday, which could lead to a few cloudier skies over New Jersey and a few showers through Friday morning. This rain chance going into Friday will likely be along the coast, but a few showers could spread into the I-95 corridor. Otherwise, Friday will remain mostly to partly cloudy with high temperatures in the low to mid-80s.
This weekend, a high pressure system northeast of Maine will push some drier, cooler, and more stable air into the Philadelphia area. Saturday afternoon temperatures will be in the upper 70s, but Sunday highs will likely be in the low to mid 70s with lows in the low 60s to high 50s. This dose of slightly cooler conditions will be perfect since Sunday is the first official day of fall.
Monday looks set to be even cooler, with temperatures barely rising above 17 degrees.
The next chance for rain could come from a cold front reaching the eastern half of the United States in the second half of next week.
