As people gather on Memorial Day this holiday weekend, a Trotwood family seeks justice for their loved one who was murdered a year ago on Memorial Day.

Trotwood police are still looking for Anthony Smith. They think he shot Bobby Daniels while the victim was mowing the lawn.
News Center 7’s Brandon Lewis spoke with Bobby’s sister, Toni Daniels, on Friday. She said she lay low for too long and needed to speak out.
Toni can’t believe no one is behind bars when we talk about a year since her brother’s death.
“It’s going to be a year, someone has to know something,” said Toni.

She tells Lewis that she misses her little brother, Bobby. Toni describes him as a hard-working, loving father and God-fearing man.
“He meant everything to me,” she said. “My brother, he was the heart of our family.”
Lewis says that having Bobby no longer here has been hard on his family and what has made things worse is that no one is being held responsible for his death.
“I still haven’t been able to accept it properly and I know the reason why, because this person is still here,” said Toni. “So me and my family are not safe.”

Trotwood police say Anthony Smith is wanted in this case. The department said it has warrants for murder, weapons under disability, criminal assault and carrying a concealed weapon.
News Center 7 previously reported on this deadly Memorial Day shooting in 2022.
Toni told Lewis that Bobby owned several properties in the area and that Anthony Smith was a tenant. She believes Smith shot and killed her brother while he was in the process of evicting him because he didn’t pay taxes or insurance.
“Seeing my mom have to go through this and lose one of her kids,” Toni said. “She (her mother) is still here.”
Lewis says the pain within her family has made her determined to get justice for her brother.
“It just started a fire because I sat still and tried to lay low, not to attract attention,” Toni said. “I have relatives who are scared, but I keep hearing my brother say, ‘Don’t stop.'”

She said the police can only do so much on their own and want anyone who has information to speak out.
“It’s either people protecting, or they’re scared, or people who don’t want to get involved,” said Toni. “I tell you, in this day and age you have to get involved, because everyone is involved. Because this could be your loved one and you would also like to help.”
Lewis spoke to Trotwood Police Erik Wilson on Friday afternoon.
He said he plans to hold a press conference to talk about this matter in the near future.
