Sports car crashes in car dealership parking lot, killing one and injuring another, S.C. police say

One person was killed and another was injured Saturday night when a sports car crashed into a parking lot at an Upstate car dealership, Greer police said.

The collision happened around 10:15 p.m. at 13755 East Wade Hampton Blvd., police said in a news release Monday. That’s the Greer Mitsubishi dealer.

There were two people in a 2006 Honda S2000 that drove off East Wade Hampton Boulevard and crashed into two vehicles near the dealership, the release said.

Both occupants of the Honda were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where the passenger, 39-year-old Max Charles Harris, died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

No further information about the driver’s condition was available.

It was not stated whether Harris or the driver were wearing seat belts.

Information about what caused the sports car to go off the road was not available, but the wreck remains under investigation by police and the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

According to police, no charges have been filed in connection with the accident.

At least 817 people have died on South Carolina roadways through Nov. 3, 2024, according to the Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in accidents in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 53 people have died in crashes in Spartanburg County in 2024, according to DPS data. There were 45 deaths reported in the county in 2023, DPS said.
