Massachusetts State Police arrested a Windsor, Connecticut, man after he stole a fire department pickup truck and posed as a police officer.
Troopers were alerted that a Windsor Fire Department pickup truck was conducting a suspicious car stop along Interstate 91 in Northampton and Whatley.
The truck driver turned on his emergency lights, stopped and communicated with vehicles, but failed to identify himself.
Officers were instructed to look for the truck.
After a short time, Deerfield and Mass. located and identified. State Police the truck and ordered it to stop. The truck driver stopped briefly before driving away and gave chase.
Officers were able to successfully deploy stop sticks and stop the truck in the rest area of ​​the Deerfield weigh station at mile marker 37. The driver was taken into custody around 5 a.m. without further incident.
When officers were able to contact Connecticut State Police and Fire Departments, they learned the suspect had allegedly broken into the Windsor firehouse, attempted to start a fire and stolen a pickup truck early Saturday morning.
The suspect, 46-year-old Kristian Avery of Windsor, Connecticut, is charged in Massachusetts with:

receiving stolen goods

pretend to be a police station

unable to stop for the police

improper use of emergency lighting.
