Sunday will be chilly in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Even colder air will arrive Sunday evening, leading to the first Freeze Watch for much of the area Monday morning.

Excluded is the I-95 area in and around Philadelphia and Delaware counties. Outside the city, temperatures can drop below freezing, so cover vulnerable plants. And as always: MAKE SURE THE ANIMALS ARE INSIDE!

The big question next week could revolve around the Halloween forecast. This may be the first year I can remember where coats won’t be necessary over the little one’s costumes. It will feel like summer sooner than the last day of October.

Temperatures will climb back into the mid-60s on Monday and Thursday [Halloween] The high will be in the low 80s, chasing an all-time high of 82 in 1946.

The NEXT Weather Team forecast is 81 for Thursday.

In addition, the lack of rain remains the most important weather forecast for the region. Much of the area is now experiencing a moderate to severe drought, which is likely to be elevated to extreme drought for parts of the area with the next update next week.

The lack of rain also leaves us chasing a 150-year-old 29-day dry spell for Philadelphia that occurred as far back as the fall of 1874.

We’ll tie that record on Sunday and set a new 30-day record on Monday. That new record will be broken every day next week, without any rain in sight. The only hope is a new weak cold front late Thursday evening and Friday morning, but like the other fronts, this front will also be low in moisture.
