The weekend looks to be mixed with mostly sunny skies and cold conditions on Saturday and more cloudy skies on Sunday. Highs on Saturday will be in the low 40s and will rise to the upper 50s on Sunday. Sunday night it looks likely that rain will return and we will transition to a warmer and wetter pattern early next week, with rain both Monday and Tuesday and highs in the 50s.
Right now, the Eagles-Steelers game looks dry but chilly with temperatures in the 40s. It’s possible the weather system accelerates, but as of now, late afternoon game time looks to be dry.
Speaking of drought, the latest drought monitor was released Thursday and much of the Philadelphia region is still in extreme drought, a level of 4 out of 5. Wednesday’s rainfall was not taken into account, but the 1″-2″ that we receive will only make a dent.
To get us out of the current drought in one month, we need between 13 and 15 inches of precipitation right now. Unfortunately, if we had that much, we would experience widespread flooding. So it’s safe to say that our extreme conditions could persist well into 2025. It will take a steady rain over the course of a few months to safely return us to normal conditions.
