The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said they have arrested two people in connection with a fatal shooting in 2017.

The SDPS said the shooting happened just after 2 a.m. on June 8, 2017. Officers arrived at the 900 block of East Duane Avenue and found two people injured in a shooting.

One of them died on the spot; the other was taken to hospital and survived his injuries.

The case went nowhere, but the SDPS said they identified the suspects in 2024. Subsequently, a multi-agency operation on January 9 and 10 led to the arrest of the suspects.

They identified the suspects as Vicente Aguilera-Chavez and Agustin Sandoval. Both were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of murder.

The SDPS said the operation was conducted in conjunction with Stockton and East Palo Alto police, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Unit and Gang Team.
