Super Bowl 2025: Chiefs will be able to use ‘three-turf’ language after NFL is said to have strikes with Pat Riley

If the chiefs of Kansas City de Philadelphia Eagles beat on Sunday and win an unprecedented third straight super bowl, they can now use “three -peat” language to celebrate.

President and the legendary NBA coach Pat Riley of Miami Heat Team has had the trademark of “Three-Peat” and several other versions of it since 1988, when his then Los Angeles Lakers had won two NBA titles in a row. Front Office Sports reported on Tuesday that the NFL concluded a deal with Riley to licensed the phrasing if the Chiefs would win on Sunday.

How much does the deal cost? The conditions were not revealed, but Finance Monthly reported that Riley received $ 600,000 from the Chicago Bulls in 1998 when they completed their second three-turf. Adapted for inflation, that is more than $ 1.16 million as of December 2024.

The NFL clearly has that kind of money to spend, and Riley has said that he still donates most of the trademark money to a good cause. So it seems like a small price to pay, proverbial, if not in practice.

Anyway, it sounds like the chiefs can use the term “three-turf” freely. Now they only have to make NFL history on Sunday.
