SAN MATEO – An alleged date arranged on Facebook ended in a robbery, authorities say.

According to San Mateo police, a man filed a report on Oct. 17 claiming he had been kidnapped and robbed by a woman he met online.

The man claimed he had been talking to the woman, later identified as 31-year-old San Mateo resident Luciana Romano, for a few days and arranged a date.

They met on Hillsdale Boulevard and started talking in his car. At that moment, Romano allegedly threatened his life. Romano allegedly demanded to be driven to a gas station in San Carlos and forced the man to withdraw some money from an ATM.

After driving to a motel in San Carlos for a quick stop, Romano told him to drive back to San Mateo, where she eventually left the car.

Using a Facebook photo, police positively identified her as a suspect and arrested her the next day after she left her apartment.
