A 60-year-old Oxnard resident has died following a shooting involving officers, police said.
The incident occurred as officers conducted a DUI search on the 100 block of West Fourth Street around 6 a.m. Sunday morning. There, the suspect, who was not the subject of that investigation, allegedly ran towards officers with a metal steel bar.
As a result, police issued verbal orders for the bar to be put down. The suspect then proceeded in a threatening manner towards officers, according to the police.
“Two of the police officers drew tasers issued by their department and one police officer drew his service weapon. The suspect approached one of the police officers within a few feet, causing the officer involved to fire,” the Oxnard Police Department said in a news report. Edition.
The suspect was hit by gunfire and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured.
