A suspect in a stolen purple Dodge Charger led the LAPD on a brief chase through South Los Angeles Tuesday morning.

The chase began around 11:30 a.m. near Hobart and Vermont streets in the Hyde Park area.

The driver tried to elude police by driving across several grassy areas before crashing between a garbage truck and a parked car. The high-speed chase lasted about 6 minutes before ending at W 52nd St. and S Wilton Pl.

SkyCAL flew over the scene and saw the suspect jump out of the car and attempt to run away on foot through a neighborhood.

The chase ended near a construction site and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect has been arrested for stealing a car. No one else was in the vehicle and no injuries were reported.
