ROSEVILLE, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) – One man was injured and a suspect remains on the run after a traffic shooting in Roseville.
“We believe the fire started at 8 Mile and I-94 and went all the way to I-696 and Groesbeck. That’s a long way to travel,” said Roseville Police Chief Mitchell Berlin.
Berlin says that around 6 a.m. Friday, an extreme case of road rage occurred, leading to a minor collision on the highway. From there, the situation escalated.
“The vehicle exited, followed by the second vehicle, and then gunfire occurred at the top of the slope,” Berlin said.
The driver of one of the vehicles fired several shots, injuring the victim who was behind the wheel of the other car.
The suspect opened fire and quickly fled while police were still searching.
“Everybody’s on it right now. We’ve got detectives in the hospital, we’ve got detectives on the street following up on it, and then we’ve got detectives running the camera right now,” Berlin said.
Fortunately, the crowd was spared from the gunfire and no one else was injured. Berlin says incidents like this should never happen.
“Driving rage is not good. If you can avoid it, avoid it. Don’t engage in it. Back off and call us,” he said.
According to Berlin, the male victim is being treated at a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
As for the suspect, very limited information is available, both about his description and his vehicle.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is asked to contact the Roseville Police Department at 586-447-4483.
