Tennis-sized hail, high winds and a tornado possible Sunday in the Wichita area

Severe weather is possible in the Wichita area Sunday afternoon and into the night, including tennis ball-sized hail, wind gusts up to 80 mph and even a “tornado cannot be ruled out,” the National Weather Service said.

Central and south-central Kansas are in a part of the state most likely to experience severe storms. The area is 3 on a scale of 0 to 5.

The heaviest weather is expected in the afternoon and at night. The best chance for rain and thunderstorms in the Wichita area is between 8 p.m. and midnight.

There may also be severe weather on Monday and Tuesday. The Wichita area is currently rated a 2 due to the risk of severe storms on those days.
