This week, my observant colleagues have recommended a slew of upcoming releases to watch, stream, listen to, read, and binge. I’m taking you through my favorites.
What to watch
🎥 Alien: Romulus takes possession

When: Alien: Romulus is in theaters from August 16th.

What you need to know: The seventh part in the Stranger film franchise follows a group of young space travelers who encounter a terrifying life form while searching an abandoned ship.

It takes place between the events of Stranger (1979) and Aliens (1986), but can also be used as a standalone film.

Curatorial editor Brett Arnold said it’s “an absolute blast that uses and remixes the series’ history in fun and exciting ways.”

Why I’m going to watch: There’s nothing better than being scared shitless by a Xenomorph, and I really need that bucket of popcorn.
📺 Chimpanzee crazy goes bananas

When: The first episode airs August 18 on HBO and Max.

What you need to know: An exotic animal dealer clashes with authorities over her passion for a movie star chimpanzee named Tonka during the four-episode documentary series.

PETA attorney Brittany Peet told me the organization hopes to reduce the impact of Tiger King, which was both a cultural sensation and a legislative success.

Why I’m going to watch: This show has it all! Quirky characters, dramatic twists, legal intrigue, a woman who calls herself the “Dolly Parton of chimps”, lovable primates, and a prestigious sense of drama.
What should you listen to?
🎧 Post Malone Becomes Country Star

When: Post Malone’s new album F-1 trillion will be released on August 16th.

What you need to know: After mastering rap and pop, the singer now ventures into country music.

The album’s lead single — “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen — is on track to become the song of the summer.

Health reporter Kerry Justich told me that the album’s big-name collaborations, including Tim McGraw and Dolly Parton, are “a testament to how talented and beloved he is.”

Why I’m going to listen: I’ve been a Postie since day one! This year he’s collaborated with Beyoncé and Taylor Swift on their new albums, and I’m glad he’s taking the lead now.
What to binge eat
▶️ Bad monkey know there is something in the water

When: The first two episodes of Bad monkey will be streamed on AppleTV+.

What you need to know: Vince Vaughn stars in this darkly comic crime drama, playing a struggling detective who investigates a case involving the severed body of a human arm.

There’s a star-studded cast, lots of Hawaiian shirts, and of course, a monkey.

It is the latest project from the creator of Ted Lasso And scrubbing, and it’s based on a book by Carl Hiaasen, but you don’t need to know anything else about it to enjoy the series.

Why I’m going to binge watch: Entertainment editor Alexis Shaw told me it’s great for fans of “mysteries, Florida madness and jokes.” That’s me, man!
▶️ Emily in Paris says c’est la vie

When: The first five episodes of Emily in Paris Season 4 will be available to stream on Netflix from August 15th.

What you need to know: The expat marketing guru we all hate is back, and this time she’s accidentally gone viral, but for all the wrong reasons.

Entertainment reporter David Artavia said Emily’s love life this season has “more twists and turns than a French braid.”

Episodes for Part 2 will be released on September 12, so make sure you finish your TV homework before then.

Why I’m going to binge watch: I’ve always loved the drama of the show, but the Olympics have made me even more obsessed with the City of Light.
