The Metro Detroit community is responding to alleged vandalism and theft on Glenlore Trails

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) — Early Sunday morning, a small group targeted Glenlore Trails in Commerce Township, suspected vandalism and theft from the building. The incident shocked the community.

“It’s not just entertainment for us. It’s therapeutic for us, it’s a family bonding for us,” Lisa Brown said.

Brown and her family have been participating in Glenlore Trails for four years. The attraction, which opened in 2020, is a popular 1-mile interactive experience full of lights and games around the holidays. Brown and her family reserved tickets for Thursday.

“Nothing has captivated us as much as Glenlore Trails captivates us. It’s just so immersive with the games and the interaction and everything that goes into it,” Brown said.

This week, the company posted surveillance photos on social media of a group caught vandalizing, stealing and destroying the property early Sunday morning.

The site was cleared and running smoothly on Sunday evening, and will do so again from Thursday to kick off the final weekend of the season, but the unfortunate incident has left fellow supporters of the popular attraction frustrated.

“It’s devastating because not only was I concerned that we wouldn’t be able to go to our event tonight, but I was also concerned that our tradition would be broken,” Brown said. “It affects not only the business itself, but also the families who participate in it and really depend on it for the most important memories of their holiday traditions, like our family… It was heartbreaking. I was shocked. not.” “I don’t believe it happened, and the biggest question is, ‘Why?’ Why would people do something like that.”

Marc Rodgers lives near the course and says his children look forward to the experience every year.

“You just see the joy in their eyes,” Rogers said.

Rodgers says he’s disappointed to hear what happened, but relieved that Glenlore Trails has been able to recover. He also hopes that those responsible will be held accountable.

“It was just really sad to see that. This is something that most people come here around the holidays and to see people doing that right before Christmas. It makes you wonder what was going through their minds. has done must come forward and be brought to justice,” Rodgers said.

‘I hope that not only have they just been found, but that whoever did it will even speak out. You know… take responsibility for your actions here,” Brown said.

CBS News Detroit contacted the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, which says it has not received an official complaint about the incident, even though Glenlore Trails claims otherwise.

Anyone with information can contact police.
