The Newark nonprofit is seeking donations of coats and other winter clothing for families in Delaware

For the Newark nonprofit Forget Me Not Families, the group’s goal is for neighbors to help their fellow neighbors.

Forget Me Not Families is looking for donations of gently used winter clothing, shoes and other items to give to families in need.

Donations can be made Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the organization’s branch at 132 Sandy Drive in Newark.

Collection bins and storage areas are also available for returns outside office hours.

  • John R. Downes Elementary School in Newark, 220 Casho Mill Road

  • Reybold Group in Bear, 116 E. Scotland Drive

Forget Me Not Families accepts donations year-round.

Other acceptable items include children’s toys, personal care and hygiene products, and non-perishable food items.

Other organizations looking for donations

The Clothing Bank of the Friendship House in Wilmington is looking for gently used coats, brand new or laundered hats and gloves, and brand new underwear and socks.

Items are accepted year-round and can be dropped off Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

In addition to donations, the Clothing Bank is also looking for volunteers to help sort the donated items.

The Ministry of Healthcare Inc. in Wilmington is also accepting donations for Operation Overcoat, where small and local businesses collect gently used coats and other items to later give to the organization.

The organization will then distribute the donated items to people who need it or who are currently unhoused.

Other acceptable items include hats, scarves and gloves. Both adult and child sizes are required.
