The second protest completely blocks traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge in and out of San Francisco

CBS News Bay Area

According to CHP, traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge was stopped in both directions Monday morning as a group of protesters blocked southbound traffic.

The bridge protest was the second demonstration to impact traffic on Bay Area freeways. It was first reported shortly after 8 a.m., hours later a pro-Palestinian protest closed all lanes on I-880 in Oakland.

Southbound traffic on the span was at a standstill and traffic was backing up through the Robin Williams Tunnel into Sausalito on the southbound 101, CHP said.

There was also word from CHP that protesters also attempted to block traffic on the northbound side, although vehicles in that direction appeared to be traveling along the stretch.

Helicopter footage of the protest on the Golden Gate Bridge showed protesters holding a banner reading “STOP THE WORLD FOR GAZA” across the southbound lanes. The video did not show any traffic moving in the northbound lanes.

While protesters occupied only the southbound lanes on the bridge, CHP may have closed the northbound lanes as authorities attempted to clear the protest.

This is a breaking news story. Additional details will be added as more information is confirmed.
