Thursday’s game was the definition of low-event hockey. While the Canucks won the even scoring battle 21-19, the Kings recorded more even scoring chances with a high score of 8-6. In the end, it was another game where Vancouver’s attack disappeared, as they were defeated 4-1 at even strength.
Thursday’s heatmap is not a good representation of the game. With the Canucks constantly giving up odd-man rushes, the Kings were able to create multiple scoring opportunities from just in front of the crease. Although LA didn’t register many shots, they ultimately made the most of their chances and were able to walk away with the win.
To wrap things up, one of the few players who looked involved was Quinn Hughes. During his 22:21 of ice time at even strength, which was more than any other player for Vancouver played in the game in total, the Canucks held a 13-6 shots advantage and won the battle of highest scoring chances by 4 -2. Hughes once again showed why he is the captain of this team as he tried to drag his team back into the game until the final whistle.
