FRUITA, Colo. (KREX) – At 11 a.m. on November 11, 1918, a blanket of silence fell on the scorched battlefields.
Armistice Day, now known as Veterans Day, commemorates the end of the First World War.
At 11:11 a.m., more than a hundred people gathered at the Western Slope Vietnam War Memorial for an hour-long service, dressed in red, white and blue, to honor those who served, including all those who did not make it home.
Three people received flags during the ceremony as a token of appreciation for their extraordinary efforts in the community. Tom Vogt was one of the three; he tells WesternSlopeNow he didn’t expect to be picked, but he’s ecstatic that he was.
