Three people were shot and one person was stabbed following what authorities said was a family dispute at a restaurant at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The incident happened on Christmas Day at a restaurant outside security checkpoints, Phoenix police spokeswoman Mayra Reeson said at a news conference. A female juvenile has been arrested, she said.
Airport police received a call about a shooting around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday and found three people at a Terminal 4 restaurant with gunshot wounds, Reeson told reporters.
Officers came into contact with two other people in a parking garage, she said. One of them suffered what authorities believe was a stab wound.
Reeson said all five individuals involved in this incident “are known to each other.”
“I truly believe this was a family dispute that escalated,” she said.
One woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Reeson said, noting it was life-threatening. Two men are registered as stable and the man who was stabbed is also in stable condition, according to the police spokesperson.
In a separate, unrelated incident on Christmas Day, a man was arrested at the airport after allegedly arriving with firearms.
“This man received a text message saying he believed there was an active shooter in Sky Harbor,” Reeson said. “This was not an active shooter. That never happened and he arrived at the airport with guns blazing. … He is being held and will face several charges.”
The man also got into an argument with a police officer, Reeson said.
Operations at the airport were temporarily halted but quickly resumed. Phoenix police did not immediately respond to a request for comment about either incident Thursday.
