Tuesday starts with dangerous cold, then temperatures rise above zero

MINNEAPOLIS— Tuesday morning will bring the coldest air of our recent frigid stretch, but temperatures will rise above zero after that.

Temperatures will start in the negative teens, with wind chills between 35 and 40 degrees below zero. An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for the entire state until noon and a NEXT Weather Warning is in effect.

Dozens of schools in Minnesota are closed due to the dangerous cold.

By the afternoon temperatures rise to positive values, although the wind chill remains below zero.

Highs will return to average on Wednesday, with a high in the mid-20s. There is a chance of snow in the morning as a weak system passes, which could inconvenience early commuters.

There will be another short cooldown on Thursday, with highs in the single digits for some.

More light snow is possible to end the week, after which we will enter the weekend with temperatures in the 20s.
