A man and a woman were killed early Tuesday morning when their vehicle collided with a Los Angeles County fire truck in West Rancho Dominguez. Authorities believe the car was involved in a street race when the collision occurred.
According to California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 12:32 a.m. on South Avalon Boulevard and East Compton Boulevard.
The deceased were described as a man and woman between the ages of 25 and 30, he said.
According to authorities, another vehicle may have been involved, which did not remain at the scene. An officer on the scene said it appears the crashed vehicle was racing with another at the time of the crash.
The fire truck was on its way to a traffic accident at the time of the collision, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
The intersection of Avalon and Compton boulevards will be closed while the investigation into the crash continues. CHP estimates it will be closed to traffic for about four hours.
