Two men recovered from truck found in St. Joe River identified

ELKHART – Elkhart County deputies have identified the two bodies recovered from a vehicle in the St. Joseph River near Six Span Bridge on Wednesday.

They are Theo Bean, 30, Elkhart, and Tireno Washington, 39, Bristol.

Elkhart County deputies reported discovering a 2018 Ram 150 pickup in the St. Joseph River on Wednesday at 3:46 p.m.

Officers suspected the truck was driven by Bean and came from the north side of Ind. 120 West, near CR 19, had driven through a ditch into the river.

Elkhart County Coroner Mervin Miller stated in a news release, “The office is working with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office to piece together the time frame from when the vehicle entered the water.”

Rescue teams were called and officers removed both men from the vehicle.

The families have been informed.

The two men had been reported missing by their families since Sunday.

The coroner also stated that autopsies on the men will be performed Friday morning.
