Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Ohio increased last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.
New unemployment claims, a measure of layoffs, rose to 13,827 in the week ending Jan. 11, up from 9,394 the week before, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment claims last week reached 217,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Kentucky saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 124.1%. New York, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage decline in new claims, down 40.4%.
