Video shows crash between group of teenage cyclists and Mercedes-Benz in Mid-Wilshire

A wild video recently making the rounds on social media shows the tense moments when a group of teenage cyclists and the driver of a Mercedes-Benz appear to collide in Mid-Wilshire.

Nearly a minute of footage shows a white Mercedes speeding dangerously close to the crowd of bikers, sometimes even running red lights and driving on the wrong side of the street as it shoots through a huge group of bikes heading west toward W. Olympic. Boulevard.

These acts lead to what happens next, when the group of motorcyclists – many of whom are believed to be minors – overtake the car in a parking garage and appear to attack both the driver and his vehicle until he is finally able to escape. .

While it’s unclear when the videos were taken, some Mid-Wilshire residents say they saw a large group of bikers riding through their neighborhood on Saturday.

Rosalina Hernandez, who owns a business in the area, said they usually visit at least once a year.

“I was there: ‘Woo! Guys, do a wheelie, do a wheelie!'” she recalled, noting the excitement both she and some of her customers felt. “It was quite cheerful. The customers standing outside were cheering them on and there were honks.”

Although she is typically a fan, Hernandez disagrees with what she saw on both sides of the video.

“When I see the video it gives me chills because it is unacceptable,” she said. “Especially as a parent. There’s no frustration you might feel when you have to push yourself to the limit.”

Los Angeles Police Department investigators have not yet confirmed exactly when the video took place or whether any arrests were made in connection.

Some say the incident is just the latest in a disturbing trend on Southern California roadways, where mass bike rallies, gangs of minibike riders and street takeovers are wreaking havoc at the expense of others, as well as causing traffic jams that are impacting areas where they accumulate over extended periods of time. of time.
