Warm and sunny Father’s Day with a heat wave on the horizon in the Philadelphia area

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It’s a beautiful Father’s Day in the Delaware Valley with mostly sunny skies and warm weather. However, temperatures are expected to rise this week, leading to the first heat wave of the season.

This beautiful weather is ideal for all your outdoor plans: whether it’s a concert, the Juneteenth Festival or a Father’s Day barbecue.

Sunday will be comfortable with temperatures in the low 80s. The humidity is also not expected to get out of hand.


From Monday, a heat wave will grip the Northeast and Midwest of the US, prompting health warnings from officials across the country. Areas including Camden, New Jersey, went door to door to senior homes, delivering bottled water and fans to some residents. As temperatures steadily rise, we are tracking a heat index of 100 to 106 degrees. This heat wave is expected to last until Saturday, June 22.

A heat advisory is in effect for much of the Philadelphia region on Tuesday. As temperatures rise to dangerous levels, keep an eye on the weather forecast, try to time your outdoor activities for the cooler parts of the day (early morning and evening), wear clothing that keeps you cool, and drink plenty of water. Temperatures will likely be in the mid-90s Thursday and Friday, with a chance of 97 degrees on Friday. With the humidity, temperatures will feel like 100 degrees.
