Former President Donald Trump is paying close attention to Pennsylvania in the waning days of the election, hoping to curry favor with swing-state voters.
But a Saturday performance in Latrobe got off to a rocky start.
Trump opened his speech at the Arnold Palmer Regional Airport with a tribute to legendary golfer Arnold Palmer – with a clear focus on Palmer’s genitals.
“Arnold Palmer was all man, and I say that, with all due respect to women, I love women. … This guy was strong and tough, and I refused to say it, but when he was in the shower with the other pros, they came out of there and they were like, ‘Oh, my God. That’s unbelievable,” Trump said.
Peg Palmer, Arnold Palmer’s daughter, later called Trump’s comments a “poor choice of approaches” to honor her father, though she made clear she was not upset by the comments.
Trump’s rally on Saturday was just one stop in the big march across the state over the weekend.
Pennsylvania is one of the most coveted battlegrounds; With 19 Electoral College votes up for grabs — the most of any of the seven swing states — both parties are aware that the Keystone State could decide the race.
Trump visited a McDonald’s earlier on Sunday to interact with voters before making a high-profile appearance at the Steelers game that evening.
