Wild ATM theft in Puyallup includes a digger, a truck and a high-speed police chase

Three suspects allegedly used a stolen backhoe Saturday morning to dismantle a standalone ATM, load it into a pickup truck and flee with the cash inside, leading to a chase after officers arrived, according to a police news release Puyallup .

The burglary occurred in the 1500 block of East Main Avenue in Puyallup, the release said. Officers arrived on scene around 8:50 a.m. when the suspect car drove away. They chased him as he sped east on East Main Avenue toward Sumner.

“The suspect vehicle continued to drive recklessly in the oncoming lanes,” the statement said.

According to the statement, officers stopped pursuing the vehicle as it approached the Sumner city limits.

Police believe the suspects stole the backhoe from a construction site near the 400 block of River Road in Puyallup and used it to drive to the ATM and load it into the truck. The pickup truck was stolen from a location in Kitsap County. The investigation is still ongoing, the press release said.
