Wild video shows a skier colliding with a chairlift while trying to jump into the air

An unlucky skier who attempted a daring mid-air jump suffered an embarrassing injury when he collided with a chairlift. The episode took place last weekend while 17-year-old Ivan Jones was practicing a run at Lake Louise Ski Resort in Alberta, Canada. He shared the moving fragment on Instagram on Tuesday.

Jones attempted a flat 360-degree turn near the resort’s Top of the World chairlift just as an empty chair passed by. The video shows Jones jumping into the air and almost landing in the chair before bouncing off the chair and falling over the other side of the elevator.

Fortunately, Jones was largely unscathed by his struggle with the chairlift. He left with only a few scrapes and bruises, although he canceled his appearance in the weekend ski race he was practicing for.

The resort took the opportunity to remind guests that stunts are only allowed in designated areas, and for good reason. “I think anyone who has seen the video is probably surprised that the individual wasn’t injured more seriously,” Dan Markham, communications director for Lake Louise Ski Resort, told Calgary’s CTV News.

“We are of course very happy that a more serious injury did not occur,” Markham continued. “It is certainly something that the resort does not condone in any way. There’s a reason we have terrain parks,” Markham explained. “To give people the opportunity to practice and perform these types of stunts.”

Jones has remained mum about the incident. He has not commented publicly on his scrape, beyond posting the video, and did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Men’s magazine.
