A new winter storm will enter Georgia on Tuesday. Gov. Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency and local school districts have canceled classes or moved to virtual learning.
Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan follows the storm that will bring up to 2 inches of snow to areas later Tuesday morning.
Areas that don’t see snow will still experience dangerous cold. Temperatures will remain near or below freezing with chills in the teens and twenties.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the following counties: Butts, Greene, Jasper, Lamar, Meriwether, Pike, Putnam, Spalding and Upson counties.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for the following counties: Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Jackson, De Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Paulding, Polk, Rockdale, Troup and Walton counties and Clay and Randolph counties in Alabama.

Snow starts to fall on the south side from late in the morning

Snow gradually begins to develop in the rest of the area during the afternoon; mainly around and south of I-20

Snowfall accumulations of 1-2″ in the winter storm warning with up to an inch of dust possible around metro Atlanta

There will be a sharp division between where it snows and where it doesn’t snow on the north side

In cold pavement temperatures, anything that falls will stick almost immediately – this will cause dangerous travel

Light snow and snow showers will pass through this evening

It remains very cold: what falls today will remain tomorrow
